Canon has added three new models to its PowerShot range and released a new Digital Ixus, the Ixus 80 IS.

 

January 25, 2008: Canon has added three new models to its PowerShot range and released a new Digital Ixus, the Ixus 80 IS.
Targeted at family photographers, the new PowerShot A-series cameras include Motion Detection Technology, which determines whether a subject is moving and controls blurring to produce clearer shots. Canon’s Face Detection Technology now comes with White Balance adjustment for more accurate skin tones and additional functions such as in-camera red-eye correction make family portraits easy and successful. The user friendly interface also includes a 2.5-inch LCD monitor, making it easy to shoot and view images.

The PowerShot A590 IS includes optical image stabilisation and Creative Zone shooting modes.
The PowerShot A590IS (RRP $279) and A580 (RRP $229) models feature a 4x optical zoom lens and 8-megapixel CCD sensor. The PowerShot A590 IS also includes optical image stabilisation and a Creative Zone, which P, A, S and M settings. The new Easy Mode function allows beginners to take pictures by simply pressing the shutter button. On-screen user guidance makes operation simple. For more advanced users, additional functions are available. Canon’s New Image Inspection Tool also enables users to verify focusing position and expressions. The Canon PowerShot A590 IS and the Canon PowerShot A580 will be available from February 2008.

The PowerShot A470 is designed for novice users.
For beginners, the PowerShot A470’s easy-to-use interface and new features such as Motion Detection Technology will commend it to purchasers. With a 7.1-megapixel CCD and 3.4x optical zoom lens, the PowerShot A470 will sell for $179 (RRP). The blue and silver models will be available in February, with a red model following in April.

The IXUS 80 IS will be available in five fashionable colours.
The Ixus 80 IS has a 5.76 x 4.29mm CCD sensor with an effective resolution of 8.0 megapixels plus an optically stabilised 3x optical zoom lens. The built-in DiG!C III image processor supports Face Detection AF/AE/FE and WB as well as Face Select and Track, AF-Point Zoom and auto red-eye correction (during shooting). New Motion Detection Technology senses camera shake, subject and background brightness and subject movements and adjusts sensitivity to minimise blurring.
A new Print List function lets users select shots for automatic printing and a new Sunset mode has been added to the scene menu. The curved metal body comes in a range of colours: Blue, Camel, Pink, Brown and Silver. The camera is scheduled for release in March, with pricing to be confirmed.
