June 2, 2008: Canon has unveiled a new compact photo printer, the Selphy CP770, which is designed to make home photo printing easy and fun.
Packed in a bucket-like carrier that stores the paper and ink, along with a power cord, the Selphy CP770 can be used with an optional battery for easy portability. Printing is based on dye-sublimation technology, with a fourth-pass over-coating for added protection against fading and fingermarks. The Selphy CP770 is easy for all members of the family to operate, with colour-coded buttons and a 2.5-inch high-definition angled LCD screen for displaying images and menus.
The printer includes memory card slots and a USB outlet for direct printing from a digital camera or computer. There also is the option to print directly from mobile phones, PDAs and Bluetooth devices through the printer’s PictBridge and IrDA technology. An automatic sleep mode conserves power but provides a quick start-up to resume printing.
The Selphy CP770 can print on a variety of paper styles, including postcards, photo stickers and wallet-sized media. Loading the paper and ink is easy, thanks to the simple cartridge-loading side door. Packs of 50 are colour-coded and sold in either colour or black-and-white styles. DIGIC II image processing ensures lab-quality prints. The printer also includes on-board corrections for red eyes in flash shots and background brightness and contrast.
The dye sublimation process helps reduce blurring and new high-gloss overcoat technology guarantees clear, dry photos that guard against water, oil and fingerprints before those little hands get hold of the prints. When kept in a photo album, prints retain their quality for up to 100 years. The Selphy CP770 (RRP $189) will be available through Canon retailers from 1 August.
