February 19, 2007: Canon has released details of three new DVD camcorders that are due to go on sale in March and offer greater ease of use for family users.
All models have essentially the same body, which weighs 405 grams. Each model is fitted with a 35x optical zoom lens and powered by Canon’s DiG!C DV II image processor. All models include support Real Widescreen video recording. The also have a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD plus a new QuickStart mode that switches on recording in just 0.7 second so users never miss a critical event. Menu navigation is via an easy-to-use joystick controls and the cameras are ergonomically designed to allow one-handed operation.
At the entry level is the DC210 (RRP $729), which offers the basic feature set an uses 800,000-pixel CCD imager. A step up is the DC220 model (RRP $779), which adds still photo capture on memory card or DVD at XVGA or VGA resolution. Related features include 9-point AiAF for focusing on off-centre subjects, a miniSD memory card slot and PictBridge direct printing support. Top of the range is the DC230 (RRP $829), which adds a wireless remote control and LED night light and replaces the 800,000-pixel imager with a 1.07-megapixel CCD that provides better still and video picture quality. All models come with rechargeable battery packs, stereo video cables and AC cables. DVSD software for Windows and Mac is provided with the DC220 and DC230 models.
