November 4, 2011: Canon unveiled its latest professional video camera offerings at a special presentation in Hollywood, which was still in progress when we posted this announcement.
We were unable to contact Canon Australia for comments so, until we have confirmation from local sources, the best information available is from a series of blogs, sourced through the 1001 Noisy Cameras website (http://www.1001noisycameras.com/). Engadget also has video coverage of the event at http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/03/the-canon-hollywood-event-liveblog/.

From information posted online, it seems there will be two EOS-style models, offered under the C300 model name, one with the widely-used Arri ‘Positive Lock’ (PL) mount that accepts Canon’s PL-mount cinema prime lenses plus many existing third-partylenses. It is estimated to sell in the US for around US$16,000. The other has the same EF mount as Canon’s DSLRs and will be priced in the vicinity of US$12,000. Both models will record video onto CF cards and each camera has dual hot swappable CF card slots plus an SD card slot for still photos.

Other known features include removable 4-inch LCD monitors, HDMI and HD/SDI outputs, video support for 10 bit, 4:2:2 at 24p, 25p and 30p in Full HD 1920 x 1080 format and 60p at 720p for sports and slow-motion video. Time Code is also available with Genlock.
We’ll update this posting when local information is available.
