May 9, 2007: Canon will release a new High Definition Video camcorder, the HR10, which offers many of the features of the recent HV20 model but stored video clips and still images on an 8cm DVD.
Featuring a high-quality Canon HD Video 10x optical zoom lens, the same Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel CMOS image sensor as the HV20, the HR10 also includes the proprietary Instant AF, 9-point autofocus and Super Range Optical Image Stabilisation systems, enabling users to record sharp pictures at any focal length setting. Still pictures can be recorded on a miniSD card at 3.1-megapixel resolution or users can capture 2-megapixel photos to the card while shooting video. They can also extract 2-megapixel images from the recorded video clips. Canon’s proprietary DiG!C DV II HD Image Processor optimises both still images and video clips to ensure top quality results.

Like the HV20, the HR10 has a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD with a wide viewing angle and extended colour gamut that displays colours with minimal darkening or distortion under a wide range of shooting conditions. It also includes the 24p Cine Mode, which allows photographers to achieve a professional “film-like” look by changing the camcorder’s frame rate to the same frame rate as movie film. This setting also changes the colour and tonal characteristics of the video clips to simulate the look and feel of a theatrical film. For added flexibility, these settings can be used together or independently.
Other features include a Quick Start function that allows the camera to go from standby to shooting mode in a fraction of a second and a Smooth Zoom Speed Control that gives a choice of three pre-set zoom speeds that control the pace of the zoom regardless of how hard the zoom lever is pressed. An easy-to-read level marker or grid is superimposed on the camcorder’s 2.7-inch widescreen LCD display for guidance. An HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection provides an easy way to watch movies on an HD-ready TV set.
