Canon Releases EOS 40D DSLR

August 20, 2007: Canon’s long-awaited EOS 400D digital SLR camera has just been announced and is scheduled for release in Australia by the end of this week. New features in the 40D include the EOS Integrated Cleaning System (which was first introduced on the EOS 400D) and Live Viewing on a larger, 3.0-inch LCD monitors for precise image composition and focusing. Featuring a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor and professional-level technologies, the EOS 40D has the feel and performance of a professional DSLR camera. A tough magnesium body provides durability without excessive weight. A new larger, clearer, high-performance viewfinder provides 95% coverage and 0.95x magnification and accepts a range of optional focusing screens. Front view with 17-85mm kit lens. With built-in flash raised. The new camera comes with a DiG!C III Image Processor that ensures superior highlight and shadow detail, natural colour reproduction and high-speed image processing. The EOS 40D performs analogue-to-digital conversion in 14-bit processing, dramatically expanding the colour range from billions to trillions of possible colours, making it an obvious choice for enthusiast photographers. The EOS 40D also includes nine cross-type AF points, with the centre AF point sensitive to both vertical and horizontal lines at f/2.8. This feature, previously found only in Canon’s professional EOS models, ensures consistent, reliable autofocus and higher sensitivity when using wide aperture lenses. In addition, the EOS 40D has a selectable ISO from 100-1600 with ISO expansion of 3200 via a Custom Function setting. Burst shooting is supported at 6.5 frames per second with the ability to capture up to 75 shots in a single continuous burst. The Canon EOS 40D will be available in Body Only (RRP $1,999.00) and as a kit with EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens (RRP $2,799.00).
