January 18, 2006: Canon has captured the second position in the U.S. Patent Office’s “Top 10 Rankings for 2005”.
The company, which has been one of the top three patent-receiving organisations for the past 14 consecutive years, and No. 2 for the total number of patents received in the past 10 years, spends roughly 8% of its yearly sales on research and development. Most of Canon’s patents are the outcome of the company’s research facilities, one of which (CISRA) is located in Australia and makes a significant contribution to product development. On-going research and development has enabled Canon to become a leading innovator in many consumer and business markets, particularly in the field of imaging technology.
