January 14, 2011: Canon has launched its ultra-compact, Full HD, AVCHD pro model digital video camera, the XA10.
The XA10 is Canon’s smallest professional digital video camera ever, and its mobility and versatility means it is aimed at semi-pros, advanced amateurs or budding film makers.
“The new Canon XA10 is perfect for situations requiring a high-performance video camera that is highly-portable, such as in-field work, live news situations or anywhere you need to be as close as 60cm from your subject,” said Anna Kalinowska, Brand Manager – Professional Video, Canon Australia. “The compact nature of the camera means it’s perfect for a variety of uses including action sports, car scenes or rig environments.”
The XA10 features an infrared (IR) mode with built-in IR lamp, a high-quality 30mm wide-angle and 10 x Optical Zoom Full HD Lens, Auto Focus and Face Detection and a detachable handle for low-angle shooting.
The pixel size of the new HD CMOS Pro 1/3 inch sensor is 260% larger than previous sensors in Canon cameras this size, giving it higher sensitivity than before in low-light conditions and a wide dynamic range. The XA10 has a lot of manual features, including a focus ring, custom keys and the ability to set aperture, shutter speed and gain. A 3.5-inch high-resolution Touch LCD screen makes viewing easy and cinema filters allow effects to be applied to the footage you shoot in camera, such as “dramatic black and white”, “vivid” or “nostalgic”.
The XA10 (RRP to be advised) will be available from April 2011 through Canon dealers nationally. For more information, visit www.canon.com.au.
