March 17, 2006: Canon has unveiled a new extended warranty program on products up to a maximum value of $2,999 that allows purchasers of Canon digital imaging products to increase the warranty on their new product from the standard one year to three years.
Whereas previously a genuine Canon warranty extension was only available directly from Canon, the new system allows the extended warranty to be sold at the point of purchase of a Canon product. The program is based upon a “Return to Canon for Repair” policy, allowing customers to return their product for repair under the warranty to any location in the extensive network of authorised Canon repairers around the country. It will be offered through camera stores and IT and mass merchant consumer electronics stores.
Additional costs for the warranty extension apply across four price bands:
– For products priced between $1-$499 – $99;
– For products priced between $500-$999 – $149;
– For products priced between $1,000-$1,999 – $199;
– For products priced between $2,000-$2,999 – $249.
Extended warranties for products priced at more than $3,000 will continue to be managed directly from Canon. (Note: all prices refer to RRPs.)
