September 10, 2007: Canon has released details of two new desktop scanners, the The CanonScan 8800F (RRP $349) is designed for home offices and combines instantaneous operation with a high-speed book scanning function. It also boasts white LED scanning function, Canon’s first for a consumer model, which sharpens text font to improve output. The 8800F offers up to 4800 x 9600dpi optical resolution with 48 bit depth and includes a built-in film adapter unit, which can scan up to 12 frames of 35mm filmstrip in a single pass, four mounted 35mm slides, and medium format film up to 6 x 22cm. It also supports continuous scanning of up to two rows of 35mm filmstrip or four mounted slides, and medium format film up to 6 x 22cm. A moving backlight film adapter unit ensures higher quality scans without sacrificing speed. Automatic dust and scratch, fading, graininess and backlight correction technology is also provided. It offers scanning resolutions of up to 2400x4800dpi and 48-bit gradation plus one-touch buttons that automatically create an image file, PDF file, a colour copy, or an email attachment in one easy step. FARE level 3 software allows users to minimise dust and scratches as well as correcting backlighting, fading and graininess.
