A new Auto Scan mode can identify the type of original and save scanned documents as PDF files and photos as JPEG images with one click of the ‘Scan’ button. With Easy WebPrint EX, users can easily select only the web page content they need to print or combine content from multiple pages to minimise paper wastage. While the MP640 only scans documents and photo prints and uses five ink cartridges, the MP990 includes film and slide scanning and features six individual ink tanks, including grey, for better tonal rendition in photo prints.

Two-way paper feeding enables users to load photo paper in the rear tray and document paper in the cassette, eliminating the need to change paper when switching from photo to document printing. Easy-Photo Print with Auto Photo Fix II is included in the software bundle.
