March 13, 2008: Next month will see the release by Canon of three new Ixus digicams, the Ixus 970 IS, Ixus 90 IS and Ixus 85 IS.
Featuring optical image stabilisation and the classic Ixus design and construction, the new models come with an enhanced DiGIC III image processor and include Motion Detection Technology and Face Detection Technology. Canon’s in-camera red-eye correction allows red-eye to be removed automatically during shooting. In addition, the improved Face Detection with White Balance (WB) ensures skin tones appear natural in any environment. All three models come with 10.0-megapixel ‘1/2.3-inch’ type image sensors.
Top of the range is the Ixus 970 IS, which has the longest zoom range of all Ixus cameras. Its 5x optical zoom lens covers a focal length range equivalent to 37-185mm in 35mm format. Up to 4x digital zoom is supported. This model has a 2.5-inch PureColor LCD II screen and real-image zoom viewfinder. It carries an RRP of $549.
