Equipped with a 1.0 type CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV6 processing, the XF705 camcorder is ideal for broadcast and video production applications.  Combining High Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC) video compression with the Material eXchange Format (MXF) as the container enables it to record high-quality 4K UHD 50P 4:2:2 10-bit files directly to widely available SD cards. The XF705 is capable of recording HDR files internally using both the Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and Perceptual Quantisation (PQ) HDR formats. The camcorder also features extensive HDR assist functions and can also output a SDR signal at the same time as recording a HDR file internally to a SD card, enabling simultaneous HDR/SDR production. An advanced 12G-SDI interface can send a high-quality and uncompressed UHD 50p signal over a single SDI cable to support streamed 4K UHD HDR using the HEVC format.

Canon’s  Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology provides accurate and fast autofocus with touch focus control, Face Detection AF and object tracking plus a graphical guide to enable accurate manual focusing. The 4K L-series quality lens  has a 15x optical zoom range, a maximum aperture of f/2.8, a wide angle of 25.5mm and effective IS for stable 4K UHD footage. Three independent control rings with end stops provide that the level of manual control that professionals expect. The XF705 camcorder is scheduled to be available from December 2018.

Next year will see the release of two new field zoom lenses for broadcast cameras. With focal lengths ranging from 8.2 mm to 1000mm, the UHD-DIGISUPER 122 (shown above) will offer the widest angle, longest focal length and highest zoom ratio currently available while providing a  resolving power that exceeds 4K requirements. The UHD-DIGISUPER 111,with a 111x zoom ratio and a focal length range of 8.3 mm to 925 mm, also achieves an even higher zoom ratio than existing lenses the UHD-DIGISUPER 86 and UHD-DIGISUPER 90. The new lenses are the first broadcast lenses to employ Canon’s proprietary ASC (Air Sphere Coating) for minimising ghosting and flare. Both lenses are scheduled for release early in 2019.

Scheduled for release in January, the CJ25ex7.6B is the latest addition to Canon’s UHDxs series of portable zoom lenses and features a compact, lightweight design. Covering a focal length range from 7.6 mm to 190 mm, its optical design features fluorite, Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) glass elements the suppress chromatic aberration from the center to the periphery of the image across the entire zoom range. Proprietary lens coating technology and a design that prevents reflections within the lens barrel reduce ghosting and flare and maintain the colour reproduction necessary for HDR2 and Wide Color Gamut (WCG) video recording. Weighing only 1.99 kg and measuring 169.6 (width) x 114.1 (height) x 223.3 (length) mm it is ideal for sports broadcasting and news reporting.
