June 14, 2011: Next month will see the release of Canon’s new EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II lens for cameras with APS-C sized sensors.
Like its predecessor, the new EF-S 55-250mm is compact and lightweight and covers a broad zoom range that is ideal for shooting a broad range of subjects such as family portraits, holidays, sporting events and special occasions. It comes with Canon’s built-in Image Stabiliser (IS), which delivers the equivalent of four f-stops compensation to ensure clear and crisp shots. Automatic panning detection enables users to capture moving subjects with ease.
Exterior design improvements on the Series II Model include a high-grade platinum ring mounted in front of the zoom ring for easier operation and a leather-like texture coating on the body. Environmentally-friendly, lead-free glass is used throughout the construction. The new lens covers an equivalent focal length to an 88-400mm when fitted to compatible camera bodies, which include all Canon DSLR cameras from the new EOS 1100D to the EOS 7D.
The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II will be sold individually, while the Series I Model will remain available in kits only. Pricing has still to be announced. For more information, phone Canon on 1800 021 167, or visit the website at www.canon.com.au.
