August 20, 2007: Canon has added three new DSLR lenses to its extensive EF range, with two being designed for cameras with APC-S sized sensors and one ‘universal’ model.
The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lenses bring Canon’s Optical Image Stabiliser technology to the EF-S series lenses, which are designed to complement cameras like the EOS 400D and just-announced EOS 40D. When used with either of these cameras, the technology claims to be able to compensate for up to four stops, vastly enhancing the flexibility of the lens.

EF- 14mm f/2.8L USM
The new EF14mm f/2.8L II USM is an ultra-wide angle lens, designed to meet the demand for high image quality in the digital age. Combined with a Canon’s full frame sensor D-SLR, the EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM delivers rectilinear, distortion-free photography at an incredible 114 degree angle of view. Two glass-moulded aspherical elements counteract distortion and improve image resolution (particularly edge resolution) and two Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) elements which suppress chromatic aberration.

The EF14mm f/2.8L II USM is designed with a circular aperture which produces beautiful defocused backgrounds. Other improvements include optimised lens coating to suppress ghosting and flare. Dust and water resistance has been improved with increased seals on the lens mount, switch panel and focusing ring. Pricing has yet to be determined.
The new lenses will be available through Canon dealers nationally. For more information, customers can contact Canon on 1800 021 167, or visit the website at www.canon.com.au..
