The mode dial has the standard auto, P, A, S and M settings plus Sports, Portrait and Landscape modes. The EOS Integrated Cleaning System ensures total protection from the appearance of dust in images when shooting in adverse conditions. Smaller and lighter than the EOS 400D, the EOS 450D has a faster start up time of 0.1 seconds and supports continuous shooting at 3.5 frames/second, with up to 53 JPEG shots recordable in a burst.

Unlike previous Canon DSLRs, the EOS 450D uses SD memory cards for image storage and is compatible wit the latest SDHC cards. This has allowed Canon to design a lighter, slightly more compact body than previous models. Canon has also introduced a new function that pauses data transfer if the memory card compartment is opened accidentally while image files are being stored on the card. Writing stops until the cover is closed and then resumes. Low level card formatting has also been introduced.
The EOS 450D is scheduled for release in April. Full specifications can be found at http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/eosdigital4/specifications.html. For more information, phone Canon on 1800 021 167, or visit the website at www.canon.com.au.
