August 12, 2008: Cameras Direct has just been announced as the first Australian stockist of the Blackrapid R-Strap products.
Claimed as the most innovative camera strap ever to hit the market, R-Straps are worn diagonally across the torso from shoulder to hip. Adjustable to fit most photographers, they have are padded with a mesh underside for comfort and breathability. A locking FastenR connects the R-Strap to the tripod socket located on either the camera body or the lens. Once connected, the camera hangs upside down, resting securely at the user’s side or in the small of the back, with the lens pointing behind you.
This arrangement allows the photographer to move easily through a crowd, carry a tripod or other gear, or simply have both hands free. To take the shot, simply pull the camera up the strap into shooting position. Three models are available. The RS-1 and RS-2 are made from black fabric, the RS-1 having no storage pockets, while the wider RS-2 has an opening front flap with a zippered pocket on the inside for storing small things like memory cards. It also features a front external pocket that can hold a small cell phone. The RS-3 is made from Camouflage Ripstop fabric and has a front external pocket for a small cell phone. However it does not have an opening flap like the RS2. The RS-2 and RS-3 models are slightly longer than the RS-1.
