February 3, 2009: The Head On Foundation is calling for entries in the 2009 photographic portrait competition.
Now in its sixth year, this popular competition and exhibition has established itself as one of the leading events in Australia’s photographic calendar. The show is supported by Canon, Adobe, Sandisk, DataBasics , Focal Press, ACDSee, emailbrain, Studio Migo, Gekko Images, Pixel Perfect Prolab, Frankel Lawyers, Lowepro, Blanket Magazine, Orient Capital, Momento, Gizmo TV, Dragon Image, Kayell and the Australian Centre for Photography.

The exhibition is open to all artists residing in Australia. Each entrant may submit up to three images via the Head On website (www.headon.com.au). An entry fee of $25 per image (non-refundable) applies. Any entry not accompanied by payment will not be eligible for the competition and/or exhibition. Deadline for submissions is 11 pm on Sunday, 22 March, 2009.
Prizes will be awarded for the best 3 images. The selection of images will be done anonymously based on the power of the photograph rather than the celebrity of the subject or photographer. Images could range from film to digitally produced using any photographic technique in colour and/or black & White. Further prizes will be awarded to images selected for ‘The Critic’s Prize’ and for ‘People’s Choice’.
Details of prizes and entry conditions can be found at the Head On website (www.headon.com.au). Head On finalists will be exhibited at the Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney 30 April and 6 June 2009 and then at the Obscura Gallery, Melbourne between 14 June and 5 July 2009.
