Next month will see the release of the Buffalo Thunderbolt dual-interface external hard drive with a USB 3.0 interface and backward compatibility with existing devices that support USB 2.0.
The new MiniStation Thunderbolt portable hard drive is idealfor PC and Mac users who require the fastest interface speeds. It couples the5Gbps super speed of USB 3.0 with the 10Gbps Thunderbolt technology developedby Intel to achieve data transfers more than three time the speed of USB 2.0,enabling large files, such as video, audio and images to be shared acrossmultiple devices that feature different ports.
Available in 500GB and 1TB capacities, the MiniStationThunderbolt is housed in a lightweight, white aluminium body and features anindirect disk access LED indicator on the underside that illuminates itssupporting surface. The HDD is bus-powered so it requires no additionalpower supply. It can be formatted to support both PCs and Macs and is compatiblewith Mac OS X Time Machine.
