December 11, 2007: An exhibition of photographs by well-known political satirist, Bryan Dawe, is on display at the Monash Gallery in Melbourne from 7 December, 2007 to 24 February, 2008.
Dawe, who is best known for his partnerships with John Clarke, has titled his current exhibition ‘Interval‘, in reference to the theatrical connotations of the images. Dawe’s photographs are constructed in the studio. Using female models, and digital projections he recreates the ambience of the cabaret, in a new series of works that are erotic and mysterious. Using his own paintings as projections, Dawe builds an elaborate studio process layered with transparency and movement to produce the final works. The exhibition displays his fascination with the Dada and Surrealism movements of the 20th century.
Interval’ is on show at Monash Gallery of Art, 860 Ferntree Gully Road, Wheelers Hill. The gallery is open between 10 am and 5 pm Tuesday to Friday and noon to 5 pm on weekends. Admission is free.
