Kayell Australia is running masterclasses in studio lighting next month on 17 April in Sydney and Melbourne.
Each session starts at 1:00 pm and ends at 5:00 pm and costs AU$134. Participants will learn about lighting terminology and techniques used to control the intensity and contrast of light when shooting studio portraits. They will also gain experience with various types of modifiers and reflectors and learn how to light backgrounds effectively. Classic portrait lighting arrangements, such as broad, short, Rembrandt and Butterfly lighting will be explained. The day will end with an overview on retouching techniques and how best to sharpen portrait images.
Participants will require a DSLR camera with a reasonably fast maximum aperture and a medium range zoom lens. Additional 50mm and/or 85mm lenses will be useful and participants must have adequate memory cards. Lighting equipment from Elinchrom, Xlite, Westcott and Lastolite will be provided.
