Eight Australian photographers have been shortlisted for final judging in this year’s Sony World Photography Awards.

 

February 1, 2011: Eight Australian photographers have been shortlisted for final judging in this year’s Sony World Photography Awards.
The 2011 competition has attracted more submissions than ever before, reaching all corners of the globe, with over 105,000 entries from 162 counties. The shortlist for this year’s Professional competition was selected by the Honorary Judging Committee, comprising world-renowned figures from the international photographic industry including photographers, picture editors, agents and critics. The jury, who came together in London to make their selection, was chaired by the British photography critic Francis Hodgson.
In the Professional/Commercial division, Liz Loh-Taylor was one of three finalists shortlisted in the Travel category, while Jack Younger was shortlisted for the Fashion category. Local photographers listed in the Open competition included Nick FitzPatrick and William Lukaitis for Fashion, Kieran O’Connor for Nature & Wildlife, Jadranko Silic for Panoramic, Danny Cohen for People and David Lazar for Travel.
The winners in all categories will be announced on 27 April at the Odeon Leicester Square in London. On the night, the winner of the coveted L’Iris D’Or / Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year, will be announced. They will receive $25,000 and professional Sony camera equipment. The overall winner of the Open competition will receive a $5,000 cash prize as well as Sony camera equipment. For more information, visit http://www.worldphoto.org/.
