Two Australian photographers, Patrick Brown and Adam Ferguson, have been nominated among the six finalists for the World Press Photo of the Year.

They have been chosen by the international jury from a list of 42 photographers from 22 countries: Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, UK, USA and Venezuela. Of these nominees, 15 have won previous World Press Photo awards, while 27 are being recognized for the first time. In total, there are 312 nominated photographs across the eight categories, including the new environment category.

Listed in alphabetical order, the six nominees for the World Press Photo of the Year are:
