October 2, 2007: Media students in Western Australia have the chance to share in $5,000 prize money by taking part in LandCorp’s Art on Art photography competition, which focuses on capturing the influence public artworks have on the shape of a community.
LandCorp has commissioned many public artworks for its land developments across Western Australia. While the installations vary from sculptures in parks to water features, light posts and public seating – they have all become an important part of the identity for the communities in which they sit. The new photographic competition aims to capture the important contribution public art makes to creating a ‘sense of place’ in LandCorp communities.
Entry is open to Western Australian students who are currently enrolled either part- or full-time in a photographic, art, graphic design or media-related tertiary course. Students can submit up to 10 images using photography as the base element, featuring a range of quirky, bold and intriguing public art installations commissioned by LandCorp at its developments throughout WA. A panel of experts will assess the entries and select 50 winning photographs. The selected photographs will be included in an exhibition as part of the FotoFreo Festival 2008.
The Art on Art competition is now receiving entries. Students are required to register, undertake the photography and submit their images online by Monday, 3 December 2007. For further competition details visit www.artonart.landcorp.com.au.
