November 2002: Agfa has upgraded its consumer website portfolio with the addition of two new services: the AGFAnet Print Service, for online ordering and the AGFAnet Web Album. Both services have been developed to handle the expected increase in demand for web services over the next two years. The AGFAnet Print Service v2.0 consists of three components: client software for end users, a server with an Internet mailbox and lab software for receiving and processing image data. The client software, which is available as a free download from www.agfanet.com, is a digital job envelope that transmits print orders via the Internet from customers” home PCs to a selected lab. Designed to minimise online time it allows orders to be compiled offline. Consumers can select which lab to send their print orders to and arrange for their prints to be collected from the lab or posted to them – or another recipient. The Internet mailbox is designed to enable participating retailers to receive images and order data. It interacts with the d-port lab software, which allows the image data to be processed by the lab so the images can be printed. Labs from 20 countries worldwide participate in this service. The AGFAnet Web Album allows consumers to upload scanned film and digital images and order prints online. They can also invite friends and relatives in participating countries to view the images and order prints from a lab of their choice. Each customer receives a lab-specific Internet address where their Web Album is stored, which is available through the Agfa website at www.agfanet.com. Images are stored free of charge for a limited period of time. Full details can be found at the Agfa website, which also contains image galleries, photo courses, tutorials and image-related products and services.
