November 30, 2005: Tamron’s new AF55-200mm F/4-5.6 Di-II MACRO LD (Model A15) lens offers a desirable telephoto zoom range at an affordable price to digital SLR owners.
Designed exclusively for DSLR cameras with APS-C-sized image sensors, the new lens covers the focal length range equivalent to 85-310mm in 35mm format and can be used for subjects as diverse as sporting events, scenery, portraiture and nature photography. Lightweight and compact, the AF55-200mm lens measures only 83mm and weighs just 295 grams. The lens features a super hybrid mount made of highly durable, lightweight engineering plastic, precisely moulded around a stainless steel “core” that weighs 70% less than a brass-made mount.

A gold-coloured band has been added to the external design between the focus and zoom rings to enhance the appearance and make it stand out as a Di-II lens. The rubber patterns of the zoom and focus control rings have been improved at the same time to complement the digital camera design style and to provide better handling. The new AF55-200mm lens accepts 55mm filters. Minimum focus distance is 95 cm over the entire zoom range. A nine-bladed, almost circular diaphragm provides an attractive out-of-focus “bokeh” effect with selective focusing and internal surface coatings minimise ghosting and flare.

The lens is available now at just $279.00 for Nikon, Konica Minolta and Canon digital SLRs. For more product information, visit www.maxwell.com.au.
