February 23, 2006: Maxwell Optical Industries has announced the AF-S Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED lens, the first macro lens equipped with Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and Vibration Reduction (VR) systems. The new lens offers Nikon’s advanced optical features and technologies, such as Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat for reduced flare, Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass for sharpness and reduced chromatic aberration, and Internal Focusing (IF) for quick and accurate focus. The AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED lens is engineered for use with both Nikon DX format digital and 35mm film SLR cameras. This lens has been developed to meet user demand for a 105mm macro lens equipped with Nikon’s latest advances in specialised lens technology to meet the needs of scientific, medical, forensic and other advanced industrial purposes. Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM) design ensures fast, quiet auto-focusing and the option for quick switching between auto-focus and manual operation as the situation requires, such as selective depth of field photography. The Internal Focusing (IF) system offers a non-rotating front lens element that facilitates the use of circular polarising filters featured in the lens, or when square filter holders are employed to facilitate special effects photography. Nikon’s enhanced VRII system offers shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower [at near infinity to 3m (1/30x reproduction ratio)] than would otherwise be possible. Negative effects of camera shake are greatly amplified in close-up photography and can affect image sharpness. For the first time the incorporation of Nikon VRII technology in a Micro-Nikkor lens expands versatility, by providing the sharpness benefits of Nikon Vibration Reduction and improving hand-held close-up photography. The VRII also offers a stable viewfinder image for easy frame composition, even when shooting at high magnification. The Nikon AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED lens will be released around Australia in April 2006. Pricing is yet to be confirmed. For more details see www.maxwell.com.au.
