September 25, 2007: Adobe Systems has announced two major upgrades to its consumer-based photo and video editing applications, Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, both for the Windows operating system.
The latest versions of Photoshop Elements 6 for Windows and Premiere Elements 4 for Windows feature tighter integration and a shared Organiser, with a common database that is accessible from either application. Users can tag images and video clips to enable theme-based sorting. New to Photoshop Elements 6 is Photomerge technology, which allows photographers to combine the best facial expressions and body language from a series of shots to create a single new cohesive group shot. A new Quick Selection Tool reduces a once time-consuming select-and-adjust task to a single click.
Users can select one of three editing modes, each geared toward a different experience level from novice to expert. A new Guided Edit mode helps walk users through the steps of improving a photo. Version 6 of Photoshop Elements also features a redesigned user interface with uncluttered screens and new tabs for accessing different tools. Monochrome conversion facilities have also been improved.
Premiere Elements 4 makes it possible to create entertaining movies quickly and easily. Users can choose from a range of movie ‘themes’ and apply them to a series of clips, creating a movie with transitions, effects and DVD menu. Background music and sound effects are also provided and a new Audio Mixer allows users to adjust sound volume with sliding controls. A new Sharing Centre centralises available ways to show off videos, and provides facilities for writing to optical disk, uploading to the Web or editing for display on mobile devices.
Adobe’s digital imaging and digital video products will be available at www.adobe.com.au and through Adobe Authorised Resellers at the end of September. Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 & Adobe Premiere Elements 4 for Windows is available as a bundle at an estimated street price of AU$235.00. Photoshop Elements 6 and Adobe Premiere Elements 4 for Windows will sell separately for an estimated street price of AU$159.00 each. For more information, phone 1 800 504 971.
Photoshop Elements for the Macintosh platform is expected in early 2008. Information about other language versions, as well as pricing, upgrade and support policies for other countries, is available on www.adobe.com/go/pse6pre4.
