June 27, 2006: Adobe Systems has acquired the technology assets of Pixmantec, developer of the popular freeware raw file conversion software, RawShooter Essentials.
Pixmantec is a privately-held company with headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company has two main products: RawShooter Essentials and RawShooter Premium 2006, which sells for around $A144. Adobe plans to integrate Pixmantec raw processing technologies into Lightroom and wherever customers will be working with raw files. In preparation for this integration, the Pixmantec RawShooter Premium product will be discontinued, although RawShooter Essentials product will continue to be available until the Lightroom public beta program is completed. Existing Pixmantec customers will continue to be supported by Adobe and will be provided with an upgrade path to the Adobe digital imaging product family.
Although the acquisition strengthens Adobe’s leadership position in raw processing, Adobe has stated it believes it will not have a material financial impact on the company. Terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
