The winners of the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards have been announced.

The Honorary Judging Committee has selected Iranian photojournalist Asghar Khamseh as the recipient of the most coveted prize, the L’Iris d’Or Professional Photographer of the Year for his series of portraits titles ‘Fire of Hatred’ depicting the victims of acid-throwing attacks. Kei Nomiyama of Japan wins Open Photographer of the Year for an image titled ‘Enchanted Bamboo Forest’. All the winning images and shortlisted images

The 2017 Sony World Photography Awards will open for entries on 1 June, 2016.
