September 27, 2006: Tamron has released details of a new 18-250mm zoom lens designed exclusively for DSLR cameras with APS-C sized imagers, which boasts a world-leading 13.9x zoom magnification.
The new AF18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro is the ultimate high power zoom lens, with a design based on the popular Tamron AF 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XI Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro lens (Model AO14). It covers a focal length range equivalent to 28-388mm in 35mm film format terms, making it a perfect travelling companion. Tamron engineers have used top quality optical materials and internal lens coatings plus advanced designs, to compensate for aberrations that would normally be present in such a high power lens design. High image resolution, contrast, flatness of image field and great colour saturation are achieved though processes that Tamron has pioneered for over a decade.
Consisting of 16 elements in 13 groups, the new lens measures only 84.3 mm in length and has a diameter of 74.4 mm. It weighs only 430 grams. A minimum focusing distance of just 45cm throughout the entire zoom range has been achieved, making it eminently suitable for close-up photography. Filter diameter is 62mm and the diaphragm has seven blades and a minimum aperture of f/22. A ‘flower-shaped lens hood is supplied.
The AF18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro lens will be available with mounts to suit Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony DSLR cameras and compatible with the in-camera anti-shake technologies used in Pentax and Sony cameras. Local release date is expected to be late 2006 or early 2007, with RRP to be confirmed. For more information visit www.maxwell.com.au or email kellyd@maxwell.com.au.
