July 13, 2006: Global sales of digital cameras will reach 80-90 million units this year and rise to 100 million in 2007 due to fast growing demand in new markets, according to leading digital camera makers in Taiwan.

A report from DigiTimes Systems claims a continuing decline in retail prices will boost demand in new markets, particularly China, India, Brazil and other Latin American countries. Low-end models are expected to be the mainstay of this growing demand. In the developed world (US, Europe, Japan and Australia), camera buyers will focus on the replacement of old models with advanced cameras featuring shake- and shock-proofing, high photo sensitivity and zoom, with production to be dominated by Japan-based makers, including Canon, Sony and Sanyo (the leading OEM manufacturer for some popular camera brands).
