ENTRY IS NOW CLOSED for Photo Review Portrait Prize 2006. The winning entry will be published in the Spring 2006 issue of Photo Review magazine, and by 30th August 2006 on www.photoreview.com.au.
To celebrate the central place portraiture plays in photography, we’re delighted to announce the call for entries to Photo Review Portrait Prize 2006.
Entry is open to all photographers. The inaugural Portrait Prize competition last year attracted over 200 entries. These were of a uniformly high standard and we’re therefore very much looking forward to seeing your entries this year.
We are looking for images that are technically and compositionally correct, but more importantly, convey something about the subject. The setting or environment in which they are photographed will play a role here, but more important is to capture that combination of facial features, body language and “outlook on the world” which allows the viewer an insight into another person through a moment frozen in time.
RULES
1. Entries should include a title/subject name, photographer’s name, location, date the image was taken (can be approximate), and type of camera used.
2. Entries must be received by 31st May 2006 by email to edmail@photoreview.com.au (JPEG file size 500KB to 1MB) or by mail to Photo Review Portrait Prize 2006, Office 4 Clontarf Marina, Sandy Bay Road, Clontarf NSW 2093. If you’d like your image returned please include a self-addressed return postage paid envelope.
3. Entrants must be the photographer of the submitted entry.
4. A prerequisite of entry is that the photographer has secured the subject’s permission to publish.
5. Entrants maintain the copyright ownership of any images, with entry in the competition conveying first publication rights only to Media Publishing.
6. Maximum 3 entries per person.
7. Winner will be judged by the Photo Review editorial team, which is looking for, above all, images that engage the viewer and convey something about the personality of the subject.
8. The judges’ decision is final.
9. Prize package from Lexar Media is valued at $2000 (as at February 2006).
10. Entries may be published in Photo Review magazine and/or on www.photoreview.com.au within progress reports on entries received.
11. The winning entry will be published in the Spring 2006 issue of Photo Review magazine, and on www.photoreview.com.au. 12. Employees of Media Publishing and their immediate families are ineligible to enter.
