The challenge we set in our June-July 2005 issue was easy: take an interesting picture within 15 minutes of waking up. It’s tough to be creative so early in the day, but our Photo Challengers were up to the mark in their usual style.

Our winner is “Abyss” by Dustin Burne from Huntingdale, WA, who describes the conditions succinctly: ‘this shot was taken recently bright and early on a freezing cold morning – I was amazed I could hold the camera still, it was that cold.’

Runner-up was Caroline Telfer’s really quite wonderful study of her daughters (ages 7 and 4) whom she’d discovered had organised a shower for themselves while mum was still sleeping.
Obviously one who gets off the mark pretty quickly on a work morning, Leigh Beer’s “Late Again” practically had us looking at our own watches!
