Taken with this athlete’s permission, this shows an elite diver at a national meet for team selections.
As he falls from the 10m platform he twists and turns to perform the required moves to impress judges and spectators alike!
At this precise moment, he sits in a horizontal pose before turning and charging into the water below in a streamlined manner.
Don’s response
The timing of this image is perfect, and the square aspect ratio is just right for this picture. And I just love the way the diver’s toes are pointing directly at his colleague’s face, uniting them in the moment.
One of photography’s greatest gifts to us is its capacity to pause time to reveal such instants of beauty that otherwise would be invisible to us.
The detail of the diver’s streaming hair, his hand positions, and the definition of his musculature remind us that despite the weightless quality of his incongruous horizontal position, he will be underwater in a fraction of a second.
A beautiful and engaging image.
