The scenery in New Zealand is magnificent and the perfect backdrop for a spot of fly fishing.
The dejected posture of the angler reflects the all too often outcome of a day’s fishing.
However, “a bad days fishing is infinitely better than a good day in the office”.
Don’s response
Take the figure out of Cliff Samson’s picture and you’re left with a pretty but not particularly distinguished landscape.
This works reasonably well as a composition but it feels slightly lopsided to me. Assuming it was possible, it might be a stronger composition if Cliff had moved to his left a little and possibly crouched down for a lower angle of view.
Imagine the figure walking toward the camera with that interesting sky making a dramatic backdrop…
