On first viewing Lex Rudd’s seascape, I was of two minds about the foreground vegetation’s inclusion.

My eye kept jumping back and forth between the detailed, smooth glossy green of the leaves and the line of equally sharply focused rocks in the swirling surf zone.

But after a time, it struck me that without the contrast, the picture might feel almost unanchored.

Crop out that corner and I think the image would lose much more than it would gain.
