The back lit snow flurries on the ridge lines of the mountains provide detail; easily lost in the grandeur of the Canadian Rockies.

Don’s response

The sheer scale of this scene is well captured in Cliff Samson’s photograph and the aforementioned snow flurries backlighting the ridge lines both amplify those features and add an extra element of drama.

The telephoto compression emphasises the layers created by the dark forested foreground and the successive mountain ridges, but the central interest of the blowing snow is still quite subtle.
