There are some Australian birds whose pose and colour really capture an observer’s attention.

This Rainbow Bee-eater stood out on a branch as I happened to be taking some photos in the Northern Territory.

I was somewhat mesmerized by the brilliance of its plumage and its sharp majestic appearance.

Don’s response

You could easily imagine that this was a studio picture where the photographer has set up a sweep and softbox to provide just the right illumination of the perfectly positioned subject.

A strong result for what Steve says was a serendipitous opportunity.

Be prepared and shots like this will find you too.
