Don’s response
While David Scott’s rodeo picture is a well balanced composition, that spotlight chiaroscuro is the killer touch.
The relationship between the spectators and the subject is interesting, but I feel that the hazy, low contrast monochromatic lighting mutes that aspect of the drama.
One could punch it up a bit during the editing process, but you’d want to be careful not to take too much away from the spotlit stars of the show.
