Landing Gull

Photographing seagulls from the shore on a completely still morning, this one obliged by landing directly out from me.
Don’s response
One of those pictures that could be taken by any number of photographers, but which, though it is of arguably the most common bird of all in coastal regions, stands out for its perfect timing and unusual insight into the aerodynamic details of a landing.
My guess is that the scruffy looking feathers are caused by the bird flaring out to lose the last bit of speed the instant before touching down.
