Don’s response

What a stunning location. And what a demanding technical exercise for photographer Gary Thomas. The framed composition works well with the rugged, glaciated, and verdant landscape.

It can be tough to maintain focus from the extreme foreground to infinity when you don’t have the swings and tilts of a view camera.

And keeping details in the shadows while not blowing out the sky is always a challenge.

Gary’s mostly succeeded here, but if ever a little focus-stacking was called for, this was the occasion.

It would be fun to see how much the image would lift had it been possible to combine separate exposures for the extreme foreground and the open landscape beyond.
