Don’s response
A delightfully terrifying portrait of an iconic Aussie bird; it makes you very glad you’re not a skink or a young snake.
At such close quarters photographer Rob Toman didn’t have much depth of field to work with. He’s done the right thing by getting the eyes in focus, but the reason the image works for me is that it not only manages to convey a sense of menace, it also presents a commonplace subject in a distinctive and unusual way.
