Jökulsárlón Child

By Michael Payne

Sony a7II and Zeiss 16-34mm f/4

Taken at the lagoon at Jökulsárlón in Iceland, I was drawn to the forgotten child in red. Everyone else is concentrating on getting their photos as the child looks on. Colour and contrast adjustments made in Capture One Pro.

Don’s response

Michael Payne’s quietly wry little study gets much of its strength from the eye-catching red of the child’s puffy hooded parka.

I like the contrast between the figures and the vast landscape, but I wonder how it might have looked had Michael come a few metres closer to the child in order to place that red accent in the lower right third of the picture.
