The building has now been demolished to make way for a structure with less visual panache.
Don’s response
Andrew Smallman’s building detail from the original IMAX will be familiar to many Sydneysiders. As this image shows, it was designed to stand out from the usual variations on a glass box that dominate most cities’ big building design.
Taken shortly before it was demolished, the surfaces had begun to develop some character as they aged. which, in my view made the building more interesting visually.
This is a vigorous composition that pays tribute to a little piece of Sydney history.
