Having a whale of a time

Don’s response

Photographer Mardi Harrison doesn’t say how she happened to find herself in a position to capture this moment of cetacean exuberance but it’s most likely a “keeper” from a whale-watching cruise somewhere along the Australian coast.

Photographs such as this are largely a matter of luck, which isn’t to take anything away from the Mardi’s image. After all, she made her luck by having her equipment set up correctly and hitting the shutter when opportunity burst out of the sea in front of her.
