This was taken on a beach in Adelaide of my American cousin who was travelling to Australia at the time. She was enjoying the beach at sunset, so I decided to snap a few pics and she decided to pose in this photo!

Don’s response
Technically speaking, Georgia Langmaid’s picture of her cousin is not remarkable. Composition is good thanks to the rule of thirds placement of the subject and because we’ve come in tight enough to crop out just the top of her head. Skin tonality and exposure are equally sound.
What makes the picture “pop” for me is the direct, but slightly ambiguous gaze with its subtle hint of an incipient smile – and those lower lashes, just catching the sun.
