A storm came in while taking some photos at a local jetty.
I used the camera’s composite feature which allowed me to leave the lens open and wait until the lightning struck.
The result was a particularly powerful image that captured some of the energy of the moment.

Steve Genesin’s picture of a spectacular lightning strike is, to my eye, all about the bolt pattern and the menacing clouded sky.
On its own, the pier has some visual interest, but it plays an important, albeit supporting, role in the composition by creating a distinct foreground layer that adds depth to the visual story.
Without it, the picture would just be of a lightning strike on a distant shore.
