By Sasa Ivanovic.
I shot this scene when on holiday in Romania, in the beautiful city of Timisoara.
The main city square is full of pigeons that are not afraid of people at all. I used the flip out screen and moved the camera almost to the ground to capture a bit different view.

B&W conversion with Nik Silver Efex 2

Don’s response
It would be fun to know how many shots Sasa had to take before getting this eye-catching composition. Starting with the lovely, if slightly otherworldly high key B&W transformation wrought by Nik Silver Efex, this picture seems to ‘build up’ in my mind.

First, there’s the elliptical pattern created by the pedestrian (love that mid-air left foot) and the three pigeons lifting off in front of her. Then the eye begins to discover the semi-circle of figures in the mid-background, each of whom creates a little point of interest.

Serendipitous to be sure, but quite arresting nonetheless.
