This shot was taken mid-year in the late afternoon at St Kilda beach Victoria.
I saw the layout of the scene with the dark sky over the water and loved it. I then waited for all but one passer-by to clear the shot.
The result is a theme I find myself repeating since then, of solitary figures within the frame.
Don’s response
This wry little observation by Philip Hankin appealed to me both for its subtle humour and its quirky composition.
There’s a pleasing relationship between the shadow in the foreground, the tree, and the interesting figure walking out of the frame.
The choice of a square frame is just so right for this picture.
